Data protection

Thomas & Meighen Solicitors respect your right to privacy and confidentiality. We are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. You have rights under the law in relation to your personal data.  You have the right to request details of your personal information that we maintain. Please inform us if you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete and it will be corrected.

When you contact us, you consent to us using your data to provide legal advice to you, and for analysis and compliance.  We retain your data to comply with regulatory and legal requirements.  Your data will be destroyed when no longer required which means: medical records are destroyed once the claim concludes; paper records after a year (where electronic copies exist); other data after 6 years (unless specific reasons such as a minor or anonyimised).

Any data you provide may be passed to: Courts and tribunals; potential witnesses; your legal representatives and their data facilitators such as IT support; defendants and their legal representatives such as solicitors, insurers, loss adjusters; ombudsmen and regulatory authorities; current, past or prospective employers; medical authorities such as NHS Trusts, doctors and medical experts.  All the above may retain your data but should do so in accordance with the law; for instance the defendant insurer will likely retain and share your data to protect them from fraud.

Financial services

Thomas & Meighen Solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the solicitors’ rules. We are not authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 but we are able in certain circumstances to offer a limited range of investment services because we are members of the Law Society. We can provide these investment services if they are an incidental part of the professional services we have been engaged to provide to our clients. Legal information
